British Virgin Islands
The British Virgin Islands, located in the Caribbean, are under the British control and they are part of the Virgin Islands archipelago. Literacy rate of the population is almost 100%. The islands stand as one of the richest in the Caribbean. The economy of the British Virgin Islands, which was once based on agriculture, now depends on tourism and financial services. Most of the crops are cultivated for internal consumption and the chief crops include bananas, sugarcane, citrus fruits, coconuts, mangoes and various root crops. Tourism generates nearly half of the revenues for the island and is the largest employer. |
